Local Expertise
The ground is the story on almost every deck we build here. Lots fall away toward a creek or a hollow, the woods start close to the house, and limestone often sits nearer the surface than anyone expects. A deck that ignores any of that ends up with posts moving and stairs that never felt right.
The deck that is out there now usually came with the house or was built by somebody’s brother-in-law, and it has reached the age where the boards have gone soft and the rail has movement in it. That is the moment to fix what never worked: the size, where the stairs land, and whether the grill has somewhere sensible to sit.
The Product
Both materials build a good deck. The right answer depends on how much upkeep you want to sign up for and how long you plan to be in the house.
Jefferson County Specifics
Rock near the surface is common here, and it changes how a footing gets formed and what it costs. We would rather find that at the estimate than halfway through the dig, so we check before we quote a number.
Lake Tishomingo, Lake Wauwanoka and the other lake associations review what goes up near the water, and the rules are specific. We prepare the drawings and the product data so the submittal goes through the first time.
On the low ground near the Meramec and the Big River, a deck should be built so it can be cleaned up rather than written off. Material choice and how the framing is detailed are what decide that, and we will talk it through before you pick on price.
What You Get
Permitted where required, with ledger, footing and guard details done to current requirements.
Layout planned around your door location, grade and how you actually use the space.
Hidden fasteners, clean fascia returns and stair geometry that feels right underfoot.
How It Works
We come out, measure, look at what is actually there, and give you a written price with no obligation.
You choose materials, colors and details with samples in hand, and we confirm everything before anything is ordered.
Our own crews do the work, keep the site clean, and walk the finished job with you before we call it done.
No pressure. Just solutions.
Testimonials
My experience with Shinnova was great. I want to thank Jeremy Sweatman for convencing me to get it done. My house looks new again and it is much warmer inside. The workers were very professional. They cleaned up after themselves every night before they left. Thank you very much.
We are extremely impressed with the professionalism of everyone we worked with Jeremy the bomb in explaining sale of windows and the process, Butch for guiding the installation and Dan for all the follow up on progress with delivery. Would recommend hands down we are actually on our second order. The Murphys

Questions
Most residential decks take one to two weeks depending on size, height and rail system. Footings and inspections set the schedule more than the carpentry does.
If you plan to stay more than a few years, usually yes: you stop paying for sealing and board replacement. If the budget is tight or the deck is small, treated lumber built well is still a good deck.
Yes. Decks are permitted and inspected, footings included, through your municipality or through Jefferson County for unincorporated addresses. We prepare the drawings, file them and schedule both inspections.
We do not. An old footing comes with no record of what it was poured on or what it has been holding up, and on rocky, sloping ground that is a bigger unknown than it sounds. New footings are what make the structure something we can warrant.
