Local Expertise
Most deck calls here start with one board. It flexed underfoot, or a rail moved when someone leaned on it, and now you are looking at the whole thing differently. The upside of a deck reaching this age is that you get to fix everything that never quite worked about it: the size, the stairs, where the grill has to sit.
The framing underneath is what decides, and in Lenexa it is often a nineties builder deck off the back door, pressure-treated and sized to the plan rather than to the family. We take it back to new footings and new framing, then build the deck you actually use, in composite or in wood, depending on how much upkeep you want to sign up for.
The Product
Both materials build a good deck. The right answer depends on how much upkeep you want to sign up for and how long you plan to be in the house.
Lenexa Specifics
Lenexa’s newer neighborhoods were laid out to move stormwater, so plenty of back yards have a swale or a basin doing real work. Footings go in clear of it and the deck is built so the ground underneath keeps draining, which is also how the posts last.
The original is almost always too small, and too high off one corner. Since we are rebuilding from the footings up, the new one can step down toward the yard, widen where the table goes and put the stairs where you actually walk.
Greenway and utility easements run behind a lot of Lenexa lots, and they decide how far a deck can go before any of us do. We check yours before we draw, so the plan you are looking at is one the city can approve.
What You Get
Permitted where required, with ledger, footing and guard details done to current requirements.
Layout planned around your door location, grade and how you actually use the space.
Hidden fasteners, clean fascia returns and stair geometry that feels right underfoot.
How It Works
We come out, measure, look at what is actually there, and give you a written price with no obligation.
You choose materials, colors and details with samples in hand, and we confirm everything before anything is ordered.
Our own crews do the work, keep the site clean, and walk the finished job with you before we call it done.
No pressure. Just solutions.
Testimonials
My experience with Shinnova was great. I want to thank Jeremy Sweatman for convencing me to get it done. My house looks new again and it is much warmer inside. The workers were very professional. They cleaned up after themselves every night before they left. Thank you very much.
We are extremely impressed with the professionalism of everyone we worked with Jeremy the bomb in explaining sale of windows and the process, Butch for guiding the installation and Dan for all the follow up on progress with delivery. Would recommend hands down we are actually on our second order. The Murphys

Questions
Most residential decks take one to two weeks depending on size, height and rail system. Footings and inspections set the schedule more than the carpentry does.
If you plan to stay more than a few years, usually yes: you stop paying for sealing and board replacement. If the budget is tight or the deck is small, treated lumber built well is still a good deck.
Yes. Decks are permitted and inspected, footings included. We handle the drawings, the filing, the footing inspection and the final with the City of Lenexa.
We do not, and here is the honest reason: the footings and framing are what fail first and what carry everyone standing on the deck. New boards over old framing hide the part that matters. If your deck still has real life left in it, we will tell you to wait rather than sell you a resurface.
