Local Expertise
The deck we are usually called about is either wedged into a small old lot near the river or hanging off the back of a two-story out west, a full story above the yard. Both reach the same point eventually: boards going soft, a rail with some movement in it, and a layout that was decided by where the door happened to be.
A rebuild is the chance to decide it properly. We start with the footings, because everything else stands on them, then work out the size and the stair run around how you actually use the yard. Composite or wood, depending on how much of your summer you want to spend maintaining it.
The Product
Both materials build a good deck. The right answer depends on how much upkeep you want to sign up for and how long you plan to be in the house.
St. Charles Specifics
The river keeps the humidity up, and wood decks here go gray and soft faster than they do further out. That is the honest argument for composite in this part of the metro, and it is worth the conversation before you choose on price alone.
Out west the kitchen door often opens a full story up, which makes the stairs, the rail height and the footing depth the real design work. Done right you get usable space underneath as well as on top.
On the older streets there is no route to the back yard except the side gate or the alley. We plan the staging, the cut station and the debris route before the first day, so the week does not surprise you or your neighbors.
What You Get
Permitted where required, with ledger, footing and guard details done to current requirements.
Layout planned around your door location, grade and how you actually use the space.
Hidden fasteners, clean fascia returns and stair geometry that feels right underfoot.
How It Works
We come out, measure, look at what is actually there, and give you a written price with no obligation.
You choose materials, colors and details with samples in hand, and we confirm everything before anything is ordered.
Our own crews do the work, keep the site clean, and walk the finished job with you before we call it done.
No pressure. Just solutions.

Questions
Most residential decks take one to two weeks depending on size, height and rail system. Footings and inspections set the schedule more than the carpentry does.
If you plan to stay more than a few years, usually yes: you stop paying for sealing and board replacement. If the budget is tight or the deck is small, treated lumber built well is still a good deck.
Yes, and the counter depends on your address: the City of St. Charles inside the limits, St. Charles County outside them. We prepare the drawings, file them and schedule the footing inspection and the final either way.
We do not. An existing footing comes with no record of what it was poured on or what it has been carrying, and the footings are what hold everyone standing on the deck. New footings are how the structure gets a warranty worth having.
