Local Expertise

Decks That Sit Low In St. Peters

The back yards here are modest, so the deck is a bigger share of the yard than it would be anywhere else in the county. The one out there now is usually original, undersized for the way the family uses it, and sitting low on ground that stays wet longer than it should.

A rebuild is where that gets solved properly. New footings below frost depth, clearance underneath so air can move, and a layout worked out around the yard you actually have rather than the drawing the builder used. Composite or wood, depending on how much upkeep you want to take on.

The Product

Choosing Between Composite And Lumber

Both materials build a good deck. The right answer depends on how much upkeep you want to sign up for and how long you plan to be in the house.

  • Deckorators composite: capped, fade and stain resistant, effectively no maintenance
  • Pressure-treated lumber: traditional look, lower initial cost, periodic sealing
  • Matching rail systems, lighting and stair details either way

St. Peters Specifics

Why These Deck Features Matter In St. Peters

Ground that holds water

Lots near the creek corridors and the basins drain slowly, and a deck sitting close to wet ground is a deck on a short clock. Footing depth, post bases and clearance are what decide whether this one lasts twelve years or thirty.

Privacy without walling anybody off

On a lot this size the deck is in full view of two neighbors. Rail choice, a screen panel in the right place and where we put the stairs handle that better than a taller fence does.

Sized to the yard you have

Bigger is not automatically better here. A well-built deck that leaves usable grass beats one that fills the yard, and we will say so at the estimate even when the larger deck is the larger invoice.

Questions

St. Peters Decks FAQ

How long does a deck build take?

Most residential decks take one to two weeks depending on size, height and rail system. Footings and inspections set the schedule more than the carpentry does.

Is composite worth the extra cost over lumber?

If you plan to stay more than a few years, usually yes: you stop paying for sealing and board replacement. If the budget is tight or the deck is small, treated lumber built well is still a good deck.

Does St. Peters require a permit and inspection for a deck?

Yes. Decks are permitted and inspected, footings included. We prepare the drawings, file with the City of St. Peters and schedule the footing inspection and the final.

How close to the property line can the deck go?

Closer than most people expect, but the setback is a real limit and it varies by subdivision as well as by the city. We check yours before we draw anything, so the plan you are looking at is one that can be approved.
