Local Expertise
The deck out back is usually attached to whatever part of the house was built last, and that is the first thing we look at. A ledger bolted to a rim joist that may or may not have been flashed, posts on pads sitting at grade, and boards gone soft where the gutter has been overflowing onto them for years.
A rebuild is the chance to get the deck the house never had planned for it. New footings, new framing, an honest decision about whether to fasten to the house or free-stand it, and a size that follows how you use the yard rather than the original drawing. Composite or wood, depending on what you want to spend your Saturdays doing.
The Product
Both materials build a good deck. The right answer depends on how much upkeep you want to sign up for and how long you plan to be in the house.
Shawnee Specifics
An addition’s rim joist is not always something a ledger should be bolted to, and that is worth knowing before a deck is standing on it. Where the structure is questionable we free-stand the frame, which makes a better deck rather than a compromise.
The mature trees on these streets are the reason the deck is pleasant in July and the reason it needs attention. Board choice and spacing decide how much of your summer goes into cleaning it, so we talk that through before anyone picks a color.
Taking a deck off a Shawnee house usually reveals the wall it has been hiding, and sometimes that wall needs work before anything new goes back on. We look at it with you and price it plainly instead of building over it.
What You Get
Permitted where required, with ledger, footing and guard details done to current requirements.
Layout planned around your door location, grade and how you actually use the space.
Hidden fasteners, clean fascia returns and stair geometry that feels right underfoot.
How It Works
We come out, measure, look at what is actually there, and give you a written price with no obligation.
You choose materials, colors and details with samples in hand, and we confirm everything before anything is ordered.
Our own crews do the work, keep the site clean, and walk the finished job with you before we call it done.
No pressure. Just solutions.
Testimonials
My experience with Shinnova was great. I want to thank Jeremy Sweatman for convencing me to get it done. My house looks new again and it is much warmer inside. The workers were very professional. They cleaned up after themselves every night before they left. Thank you very much.
We are extremely impressed with the professionalism of everyone we worked with Jeremy the bomb in explaining sale of windows and the process, Butch for guiding the installation and Dan for all the follow up on progress with delivery. Would recommend hands down we are actually on our second order. The Murphys

Questions
Most residential decks take one to two weeks depending on size, height and rail system. Footings and inspections set the schedule more than the carpentry does.
If you plan to stay more than a few years, usually yes: you stop paying for sealing and board replacement. If the budget is tight or the deck is small, treated lumber built well is still a good deck.
Yes. Decks are permitted and inspected, footings included. We prepare the drawings, file with the City of Shawnee and schedule both the footing inspection and the final.
Not always. The original was usually placed wherever the door landed, which is not necessarily where the shade, the view or the grill want to be. We will lay out both options on the estimate so you can see the difference before anything is dug.
