Local Expertise
The lots here shape the deck more than the house does. In Belleville and the older towns they are deep and narrow with an alley behind, so everything comes in past the house or in through the back gate. Out toward Shiloh and Mascoutah the yards open up and the question becomes what to do with the space rather than how to fit into it.
The deck that is there now is usually past its point. Boards that give underfoot, a rail with movement in it, and a footprint set by where the door landed rather than by how you use the yard. We rebuild from the footings, which is the only honest way to warrant what goes on top.
The Product
Both materials build a good deck. The right answer depends on how much upkeep you want to sign up for and how long you plan to be in the house.
St. Clair County Specifics
On the older city lots the house sits on stone or rubble, and footings near it have to be placed carefully rather than driven in where it is convenient. We work that out on site before we quote a number.
A deep lot with alley access is a gift if it is planned and a problem if it is not. We decide up front where the delivery lands, where the cut station goes and how the debris leaves, because there is rarely room to change your mind.
If you are two years from a transfer, the right deck is not the same as the one for a family staying twenty. We will lay out both, with the honest difference in cost and in what you get back.
What You Get
Permitted where required, with ledger, footing and guard details done to current requirements.
Layout planned around your door location, grade and how you actually use the space.
Hidden fasteners, clean fascia returns and stair geometry that feels right underfoot.
How It Works
We come out, measure, look at what is actually there, and give you a written price with no obligation.
You choose materials, colors and details with samples in hand, and we confirm everything before anything is ordered.
Our own crews do the work, keep the site clean, and walk the finished job with you before we call it done.
No pressure. Just solutions.

My experience with Shinnova was great. I want to thank Jeremy Sweatman for convencing me to get it done. My house looks new again and it is much warmer inside. The workers were very professional. They cleaned up after themselves every night before they left. Thank you very much.
We are extremely impressed with the professionalism of everyone we worked with Jeremy the bomb in explaining sale of windows and the process, Butch for guiding the installation and Dan for all the follow up on progress with delivery. Questions
Most residential decks take one to two weeks depending on size, height and rail system. Footings and inspections set the schedule more than the carpentry does.
If you plan to stay more than a few years, usually yes: you stop paying for sealing and board replacement. If the budget is tight or the deck is small, treated lumber built well is still a good deck.
Yes. Decks are permitted and inspected, footings included, through your municipality or through St. Clair County for unincorporated addresses. We prepare the drawings, file them and schedule both inspections.
We can build to whatever your subdivision or town requires, and on the older streets the useful reference is the house itself rather than anything next door. Proportion, rail style and material all come off your house.
