Local Expertise
The deck conversation starts with what you want to do out there. Dinner for eight, or a grill and two chairs. Shade by six, or sun until it sets. Stairs down to the yard, or a landing that keeps the dog where you can see him. That is what shapes the deck, far more than whatever is bolted to the back of the house now.
Subdivisions across west county and St. Charles County got pressure-treated pine when the houses went up, and twenty Missouri winters later they read the same: boards cupping and splintering, rails that give when you lean on them, fasteners bleeding rust down the framing. Many of these lots also drop away behind the house, which puts the deck a full story up. Twelve feet up, a deck that has gone soft is not a project you put off another summer.
The Product
Both materials build a good deck. The right answer depends on how much upkeep you want to sign up for and how long you plan to be in the house.
St. Louis Specifics
Ground that falls off behind the house is normal in this metro, and it puts a deck a story up. Footings, framing and rail details all change with it, and that is not a call anyone can make from the driveway.
Missouri runs humid all summer and cycles through freeze and thaw all winter. Footings below the frost line and composite decking that does not drink up water are what keep a deck flat and level years later.
A ledger cannot just be bolted to brick veneer, so on masonry homes the deck carries its own posts and beam at the house side. That is a framing decision, and it is one of the first things we look at.
What You Get
Permitted where required, with ledger, footing and guard details done to current requirements.
Layout planned around your door location, grade and how you actually use the space.
Hidden fasteners, clean fascia returns and stair geometry that feels right underfoot.
How It Works
We come out, measure, look at what is actually there, and give you a written price with no obligation.
You choose materials, colors and details with samples in hand, and we confirm everything before anything is ordered.
Our own crews do the work, keep the site clean, and walk the finished job with you before we call it done.
No pressure. Just solutions.

My experience with Shinnova was great. I want to thank Jeremy Sweatman for convencing me to get it done. My house looks new again and it is much warmer inside. The workers were very professional. They cleaned up after themselves every night before they left. Thank you very much.
We are extremely impressed with the professionalism of everyone we worked with Jeremy the bomb in explaining sale of windows and the process, Butch for guiding the installation and Dan for all the follow up on progress with delivery. Questions
Most residential decks take one to two weeks depending on size, height and rail system. Footings and inspections set the schedule more than the carpentry does.
If you plan to stay more than a few years, usually yes: you stop paying for sealing and board replacement. If the budget is tight or the deck is small, treated lumber built well is still a good deck.
Your municipality reviews the plans, the footings and the rail heights, and in many subdivisions the trustees review how it will look as well. We prepare the drawings and file with both.
It changes the work, so yes. A deck a story up needs deeper footings, more framing and different rail details than one that steps down to grade. We measure the drop and show you what it means before you decide anything.
